Chris Hilton is happy about where Stocksbridge Park Steels lie after eleven games.

The play-offs chasers are sixth, a point and a game-in-hand of fifth-placed Basford Town.

The Steels are in a better position than they were this time last year.

“We had a bad start in terms of the first three games, but we have started playing at the level we were at last season,” Hilton told Non League Yorkshire.

“We’re up there and deservedly so.

“We have tightened up at the back and apart from Saturday, we always look capable of scoring.

“We’re scoring in most games. We’re in the (play-offs) mix and we’re in and around where we need to be.”

Stocksbridge are away at Witton Albion tonight, a few days after the goal-less stalemate with struggling Rugby Town.

The game was one-way traffic in favour of the Steels, but they just couldn’t score.

“If we had won on Saturday, it would have been fully deserved,” Hilton added.

“It just wouldn’t drop for us. Our goalkeeper Dave (Reay) didn’t have a shot to save.

“I thought it would be a matter of time before we scored.

“It was frustrating, but I’m looking at it positively because if you take out the Sheffield Senior Cup game (against North Gawber), that’s four consecutive clean sheets that we have kept.”
