Evo Stik Division One North
Goole AFC 0-0 Tadcaster Albion
Goole AFC were probably the happier of the two sides after the goal-less draw.
Tadcaster will feel it was probably two points dropped after several guilt edge chances were spurned in the second half.
On a brisk evening at the Victoria Pleasures Ground, Goole skipper Derry Robson tried to break the deadlock in supreme fashion but lashed narrowly off target.
Taddy went one better in the 10th minute when Adam Baker’s low drive hit the target via a slight deflection.
Ombeni Ruhanduka threatened to hurt the visitors with his pace but when able to stretch his legs, Andy Milne stormed across and put in a perfectly timed challenge to bring the attack to a sudden halt.
The home side were forced into a change after 23 minutes as Nathan Modest picked up a head injury which saw the introduction of former Garforth Town forward Curtly Martin-Wyatt.
Chances were few and far between in the first half but Josh Greening could have potentially done better scooping over a Corner flick down from close range.
The Vikings had a good half chance of their own four minutes from the break and it fell to Ruhanduka once again. Conner Harman sprung the offside trap and floated a deep cross to Ruhanduka who failed to hit the target from four yards out.
Into the second half and Taddy almost nudged in front in spectacular fashion.
A clearing header founds its way to Josh Greening who chested, flicked over Louis Kirk and volleyed all in one swift movement, only to see his luscious effort kiss off the top of the crossbar.
The small figure of Ruhanduka was certainly looking the most likely scorer for Goole. The winger was getting into dangerous positions but just lacked a cool head in front of goal, this time acrobatically firing over the mark.
The officials weren’t the most popular figures at the VPG on Tuesday evening, and were even more disliked by the travelling fans shortly after the hour mark when the Brewers had a goal disallowed.
Adam Baker’s fierce shot was well saved by Barford but Josh Greening was quickest on the scene to follow up and slide into the bottom corner, only to be greeted by an offside flag.
Taddy were operating through the gears as the second half went on and with 22 minutes remaining Tom Corner was denied by a terrific close range block.
It felt like only a matter of time until Tadcaster broke the deadlock at this point and were unbelievably denied again with thirteen minutes to go.
Josh Greening was threaded in on goal down the right-hand side before squaring across to Adam Baker who looked certain to score from five yards with the goalkeeper out of the equation and with the goal gaping.
But as Baker struck goalwards, defender Jordan Cooke got the slightest of touches which diverted the shot onto the post which allowed Goole to hack clear.
With the home side on the ropes and clinging on for a point, The Brewers had one final moment of exasperation to despair to.
Josh Greening’s in-swirling corner was padded down by goalkeeper Barford which dropped to Josh Barrett whose ferocious strike towards goal looked certain to win Taddy the three points, but how the match was going it of course smashed into Tom Corner and hooked to safety.
