Carl Stewart’s header proved to be the difference as Scarborough Athletic overcame nine-man Ossett Albion.

The two sides went in on level terms at the interval and it was the red cards that helped to liven up the contest.

The second half saw Albion’s Adam Muller and Nicky Matthews dismissed for second bookable offences by Stocksbridge-based referee Lee Hible.

In between these two dismissals, Scarborough grabbed their goal when Adam Bolder beat Albion goalkeeper Jordan Bradshaw to a long ball to loop a header into the net.

With Albion reduced to nine men they redoubled their efforts and were the better side for the last quarter of an hour and Scarborough were hanging on desperately.

In the dying moments Albion were awarded a penalty, which was taken by Darren Thornton but he sent his kick high over the crossbar, much to the relief of the Scarborough fans.
