Turn off the television sets and get down to watch your local Non League football club to see some goals scored.
That’s the view of Handsworth Parramore manager Mick Godber, who described Sky’s latest heavily-promoted match as “woeful”.
That was the goal-less draw between Liverpool and Manchester United at Anfield and Godber believes it was an example why Non League football should attract more people.
Godber told Non League Yorkshire: “Unfortunately I did watch it and it was woeful, is that the best way of saying it?
“They had promoted the game for three weeks. This is why it is a shame that Non League football does not get more people watching.
“When people come to Non League Football for the first time, they tend to come back. But it is getting them here in the first place.
“Non League football offers value for money. At our games, you can come with your family for £20, have a couple of pints, a pie, the kids can run about, you can see some goals and you can chat to the players after.
“That Liverpool-Man United game, people probably paid well over £40 and it was woeful. Its not just that, I think there is too much football on TV and people get bored.
“I’ve no interest in Premier League football and I don’t watch it on a Sunday.”
In the past few weeks, Godber has thrust himself into the world of social media by joining Twitter.
@GodberMick has been active and currently has a following of 125. That will surely rise when people realise how much wisdom Godber is spreading.
“Somebody said I had to get used to it, its alright,” he said.
“I do one or two tweets a week to say well done to the team. I am using a lot of pictures, but that’s my daughter.
“It is a useful tool and it promotes your club.”
