Josh Wright has taken interim charge of Worsbrough Bridge after Ian Shirt resigned.

Wright, the former Goole AFC and Stocksbridge Park Steels midfielder, will hold the fort for the first time when Bridge visit Winterton Rangers.

Shirt will remain a very popular figure at Park Road as he became manager during the most traumatic time in the club’s history.

Many expected Worsbrough to fold in February, but Shirt ensured that the club had a team to finish the campaign and ultimately secure NCEL survival.

Chairman Pete Schofield said: “I would like to thank Ian for all his handwork at Worsbrough Bridge, he was one of the people who were instrumental in securing the future of the club back in February when the club was on its knees.

“I asked him if he would step in to the breach and manage the club under exceptionally difficult circumstances, which enabled the club to maintain its NCEL status. Ian is an exceptional guy, who I am proud to have been associated with and he is Worsbrough Bridge through and through.

“I know recent defeats have hurt him and it was with great sadness that we accepted his resignation yesterday evening. Ian will always be welcome at Park Road and I want to thank him for his effort and commitment and wish him well for the future.”
