Former Garforth Town midfielder Ash Preece has signed for Parkgate

Midfielders Ash Preece and Tom Smith’s moves to Parkgate are due to be confirmed later.

The pair who played under Graham Nicholas at Garforth Town and Nostell Miners Welfare could make their Parkgate debuts tonight when Worksop Town visit Roundwood.

Nostell agreed to release their registrations, despite being under no obligation to do so because of Danny Harris’ transfer to Parkgate on Monday. Nostell could have made them wait for another 28 days to sign either Preece or Smith.

It is believed that there will be no further transfer activity from Nostell to Parkgate for the rest of the season.

  1. This is what football should be about!! Allowing players to have a choice where they want to play and not with holding transfer forms against their wishes. Players should have some say in their future and should hold some power to de register themselves if they wish. Surely we should be encouraging players to develop their game and Give them every chance to succed.

  4. It is ridiculous Aaron! clubs shouldn’t be able to ‘dictate’ what happens to players. Any players should be free to move clubs if they are unhappy. They can’t move clubs or leave so basically are held to ransom!

  5. It’s ok saying that but when a manager leaves one club for another he then could rip apart a club by taking all of their players if they wanted to follow. The 7 day rule and subsequent 28 day rule allows time for clubs to either ask the players to stay or time to sign replacements.

Pretty straight forward if you ask me.

    1. In that case you have apoint Chris but not when a player not playing or in squid for 2 or 3 months out.
I think the player has his own right to cancel his contract but some club hold grudge
Thanks Garforth for been so professional with jaz

  6. These players played there last match for Nostell MW almost 2 months ago on the 1st September, after which they made their wishes known to the club that they did not want to stay…..

Perhaps James including an article on how difficult it has been for these players, including Danny Harris to end their association with Nostell MW may have been an interesting read for your followers.

Nostell MW made it very difficult for them to move on from the club. This was despite their wishes and despite them meeting up at the club back in early September, to return their tracksuits and to deregister/ cancel their registration as was promised them (your article dated 12 September 2016 did indeed state that Danny Harris had informed Nostell MW that he would not be returning).

When players have expressed a wish to leave, and importantly have been promised by a club that this will be sorted, and are also not part of the current team or going to another club in the same division, they shouldn’t have to wait 2 months and have all this difficulty. Perhaps had it been a club other than Parkgate that they were wanting to sign for, we wouldn’t be talking about this in the first place!

I am aware of the 7 day rule and subsequent 28 day rule and I get that, however a club can cancel a player’s registration at anytime with no observation of the 7 day rule as the league has informed me. This would surely have been the case for 2 players who recently signed for Nostell MW from Yorkshire Amateur on the same day.

I know for a fact that things were made particularly awkward for them to move on for personal issues/reasons, none of which involved or concerned any of the players.

I am thankful that Nostell MW have now released these players and have been able to put any personal issues/reasons they had aside. I hate to see players used as pawns when they are innocent. Hopefully the lads can now get back to enjoying their football!

  7. I predicted that in this case Graham would get players in he knows and trusts , in this case the lads he signed from Garforth were not getting selected anyway , no problems with that, when you look at the transfers going on several players are leaving clubs and joining a new club en masse ,

  8. I’m surprised people from nostell have commented on Danny and ash who haven’t played for months yet no one comments about the fact that nostell put out about having a director of football and not making wholesale changes at the club and now there are only 2 players left from when graham left. Double standards or what ?

    1. Always seem to be posting on Nostell articles so must be a little bit upset about something.
Have you ever thought wholesale changes have to be made because lads leave and follow the manager they like to play for (hence the above article) or that even a club playing in a higher standard come in for them?.
Again the article doesnt mention that the squad contained two local lads from the reserve side and two lads who have returned to the club.
But hey, you can rant as much as you want from your armchair, would be nice to see you supporting the side, maybe we could even do you a deal on a season ticket?

  9. It sounds like its got a bit personal , if a player no longer wants to play for a club , can a club dictate where the players go ? I do think that nowadays more and more players play for and show loyalty to the manager who signed them .

  10. It’s nice to see other comments apart from just mine (The so called bitter ex managers wife lol) . If so frustrating that people only get half the stories on what’s going on in the leagues At times but I am grateful that most people will realise that there is always two sides to every story and to take things at face value. Thank you Vicky for highlighting the other side to this story. This article makes Nostell look like saints for doing such a good deed but To be fair to James he generally prints straight from the source so I imagine he hasn’t been made aware of all of the facts ! Again
