Toolstation NCEL Premier Division
Garforth Town 1-0 AFC Mansfield
Jack McMurrough’s first half tap-in earned Garforth Town back-to-back league victories.
The hard-fought win against one of the league’s fancied sides moves the Miners up to 15th.
The deadlock was broken on the half-hour with a well-worked move. It all started in their own half as Lee Turner and Jamie Allsop combined to send Mitch Hamilton away down the right wing. Hamilton, the son of former prolific goal-scorer Mark, sprinted past several defenders before crossing to give midfielder McMurrough a simple two-yard tap-in.
Turner then wasted a golden one-on-one opportunity.
Garforth, who had new centre-back Ryan Donoghue in their backline, were put under pressure in the second half.
Ollie Fearon put wide when bearing down on Miners stopper Paul Hagreen and Mansfield also had a goal disallowed.
But the day belonged to Garforth, who now face tough trips to Staveley Miners Welfare and Armthorpe Welfare in the next seven days.
