Armthorpe Welfare 2-4 Garforth Town
Leading goal-scorer Mark Simpson returned to Garforth’s starting line-up with a bang after scoring two fantastic goals.
James Beaston put Garforth ahead after 19 minutes by prodding in a Vincent Dhesi free kick from close range. Armthorpe boss Mike Carmody was then ejected from the technical area for remonstrating too much over a possible handball in the build-up to Garforth’s free kick.
Simpson, who has been on the bench in the last few games, soon notched his first of the afternoon in memorable fashion. The young striker somehow got past five players after starting out on the left wing. After a quick one-two with Adam Turner and a bit of luck, Simpson went through to score into the empty net.
Jack Waldron brought the Welfare back into the game when he scored five minute before half time but Simpson scored his second in the dying seconds of the half to restore the visitor’s two goal advantage.
This was even more spectacular than his first as he went and audaciously lobbed the Armthope goalkeeper Adam Stevens from just inside the penalty area.
Welfare started the second half well and Liam Radford brought them back to within one when he scored on 50 minutes.
Garforth punished them again three minutes from time when Sean Hunter, son of manager Rob, wrapped the game up from the penalty spot.
