Here is the 12th of a weekly series profiling players across the region. Each week a different player will reveal their best (and worst) moments. This week it is the turn of Hemsworth Miners Welfare’s highly-rated young defender Harry Viggars.
Name: Harry Viggars
Age: 20
Position: Centre-back
Current Club: Hemsworth Miners Welfare
Previous Clubs: Pontefract Collieries
Day Job: Greenskeeper
Best mate in football: Dave Stirland (Hemsworth’s match reporter)
Description of Career Highlight: Signing for Barnsley at the age of 12 and winning promotion last season with Hemsworth.
Lowest Moment in Football: Turning green before passing out after injuring my ankle ligaments at Penistone at the end of last season.
Description of Most Memorable Match: When we promotion at Dronfield Town last season and beating the former winners West Auckland 3-2 in the FA Vase last season.
First semi-professional manager: Brendan Ormsby (Pontefract Collieries)
Description of First Red Card (at semi-professional level): N/A
Description of First Goal (at semi-professional level): My goal at Bottesford in September 2013. I picked the ball up 25 yards out, went between two defenders and then round the goalkeeper before tapping in (I was a 17 year old striker at the time).
Description of favourite goal (at semi-professional level): I scored a 35 yard chest then volley for the U19’s in one of my first few games away at Altofts. For the first team I haven’t scored that many, but scoring this season in the FA Cup against Runcorn Linnets was a big and important one. I had just signed my contract at Hemsworth a few days before so it was nice to give something back and lead us to a 2-1 victory which brought in vital finance for the club.
What do you want to achieve in football in the future: Going as far as possible with Hemsworth and playing at highest level possible.
Favourite Non League Ground to play at (barring your own club): AFC Emley (where we’ve never won).
