Joint manager Graham Hodder says Selby Town are looking forwards, not back.

Selby started the month in third, but a run of poor results, including the 7-0 defeat at AFC Emley, have knocked them back down to mid-table.

However, Hodder hopes that the Emley defeat is the watershed moment.

“All the players and management got the pride in the club back at Penistone,” Hodder told Non League Yorkshire.

“I hope the supporters were thinking ‘there’s something to build on’.

“We did a session on the Tuesday after for an hour and half and we worked on certain points that let us down at Emley.

“We worked on a change of formation and they took it onboard and it worked well at Penistone.

“It is hard to say what went wrong at Emley. They hit one-or-two worldes and it was one of those games, I’ll put it down to that.

“It was a shock to the system because we had kept all those clean sheets, but these things happen in football. Teams get hammered and sometimes they need that kick up the backside.

“We took it, but everyone has come back as a group. Not one player said they couldn’t make it for the Penistone game.

“We’ve moved on and we are looking ahead in a positive way. I think we have a good set of lads. They all work for each other.”

Selby visit Teversal tomorrow, weather-permitting.
