Ollerton Town 0-1 Westella & Willerby

Callum Stone’s deflected strike secured a late victory for Westella & Willerby at old rivals Ollerton Town.
Goalkeeper Lewis Exall was also a hero for Westella as he saved a penalty in the second half.
The opening 20 minutes was an even game as both sides tried to play football. Westella drew the first effort on goal. Chris Short driving into the Ollerton half, releasing Danny Walker down the right wing who pulled the ball back for strike partner Mike Pecora, unfortunately for Pecora his shot was stopped on the line by the Ollerton full back.
Within a split second the hosts come to life with a quick counter attack that ended with a fine save from Westella goalkeeper Exall.
Both sides continued to work hard with no end result on show with some good defending on show.
Exall was in action 10 minutes before the break superbly tipping the ball round the post low to his right hand side.
The second half started at a frantic pace. Bingham out wide for the hosts drove in to the Westella box and went down extremely easy under pressure from Andy Jackson, referee Ben Cass pointing to the spot with 50 minutes played. Exall dived to his left, saving the initial shot from Carter who then somehow managed to fire the rebound up and over the cross bar.
The penalty brought Westella into the game and respond immediately. Short, Pecora, Walker and Charlie Shelley saw some neat passing play and it was Walker who went through one on one with the home keeper keeping his side in the game.
On the hour mark Walker and Pecora went close again in front of goal. Firstly Walkers volley was tipped over for a corner. Shelley delivering to the far post and on hand was Pecora who took one touch and volleyed at the home keeper who didn’t know much about the shot hitting him in the chest.
With 70 minutes played the game was looking like a 0-0 with chances wasted by both sides. Returning from injury, Zak Oakshott was lucky to remain on the pitch with a late last ditch tackle receiving a yellow card.
The game became open and it was Stone who pinched the ball from a wayward home pass and drove deep in to the Ollerton half and from 30 yards rifled his effort on goal. It took a deflection and loop in to the opposite corner of the goal to put Westella in the lead on 76 minutes.
A change in formation from Westella saw the introduction of Harry’s Earl slotting in to the middle with youngster Josh Walker going up top to see the game out. Both players linked up well to see Danny Walker go through on goal with 10 minutes to play. Walkers shot unfortunately hitting the wrong side of the post.
Ollerton had one last throw of the dice with a ball in to the box that ended up in Exall’s hands.

“Today was one of those games where both sides did more or less everything right apart from score, either side could of won and if both sides had taken the chances the game would of been five all.
“It’s always nice to get a little bit of Lady Luck with a deflected effort and when your in a little rut like we have been you need that luck on your side and you take it.
“The back four today where superb, the midfielders worked extremely hard, the forwards did everything right but Lewis Exall in goal was fantastic today and was there when we needed him.
“An away win, a clean sheet and a good performance stands us in good stead for Wednesday’s game at home to Nostell Miners, another game we will be doing everything we can to get another win.”
