Grant Black is keeping his feet firmly on the ground, despite his Ossett Town side holding a place in the play-offs zone.

Black, one of the brightest young managers in the Evo Stik, has engineering a stunning revival at Ingfield having taken them from relegation candidates to league high-flyers in just ten months.

Ossett currently occupy fourth spot and they are only two points behind leaders Scarborough Athletic.

“We’re not getting carried away,” Black told Non League Yorkshire.

“People around the clubs, the fans, probably are and that’s fair play. Us as a squad and management team we know that things can change quickly.

“It is November and if we’re there or there abouts in April, you’ll see a different side to us.

“At this moment in time we’re going about our jobs and we’ll see how far it takes us.

“We’re taking it a game at a time. With the mentality of the players in the dressing room I would be disappointed if we didn’t finish in the top half.

“It is common knowledge that we have a low budget so if we finished in the top half, it would be a step in the right direction.

“We have come a long way in a short space of time. We were only appointed in February and the club was in a bit of a state.

“We took a lot of points between then and the end of the season and we have just looked to improve. I know we have more points than we did at this stage last season, but we don’t look at that too much.

“We have just kept the momentum going from the end of last season.”

Ossett continued their incredible start with the Danny Frost-inspired injury-time win at Tadcaster in midweek.

Black said: “It was a brilliant victory. Away at Tadcaster on a Tuesday night is never easy. There was floodlight failure and we didn’t kick off at 8.45pm.

“Although I think in patches we switched off, we dug in and took three points. It was dramatic, it couldn’t have come later and in fairness to Taddy, we had a lot of luck.

“Leigh Overton put in an unbelievable goalkeeping performance. But to not play at our best and win is sometimes quite sweet.”
