Bridlington Town 2-4 Hemsworth Miners Welfare
Hemsworth Miners Welfare came from 2-0 behind to spectacularly end Bridlington’s 12-match winning run in the league.
It was even more remarkable because star centre-back Harry Viggars came off injured in the first half.
Bridlington must have thought that they were on their way to a straight-forward after the opening half-hour.
Brett Agnew scored from the penalty spot, shortly before Viggars went off with an ankle injury. It got worse for Hemsworth when Brid’s Will Waudby, back from a brief spell at Goole, sneaked in at the back-post to score.
But the Wells hit back and thanks to goals from Nick Guest and Billy Law, the scores were level by half-time.
Then straight after the interval, Law pounced on the follow-up from Richard Collier’s free kick to place the Wells in front for the first time.
More drama followed as Brid were awarded a second penalty, but Agnew blazed his attempt high and over the crossbar.
Hemsworth seized the initiative again by extending their lead – with young Jed Wilkinson scoring and sealing his side’s victory.
Further good news followed for the Wells in the closing minutes as Nash Connolly returned from a long absence because of injury.
