Ossett Albion 2-1 Glossop North End
The league’s deadliest set-piece taker Rob Bordman scored two spectacular goals to guide Ossett Albion to a much-needed win.
After losing to Goole AFC in midweek, Albion needed a lift and it was hardly a surprise that their talisman was at the heart of it.
In the sixth minute, Albion were awarded a free-kick on the left edge of the box and Bordman stepped up to place his fierce shot beyond Matthew Cooper in the Glossop goal.
Albion almost doubled their lead when another free-kick was palmed out by Cooper. The ball fell to Adam Muller, but while his shot went wide, he was also judged to be off-side.
Glossop started the second half by putting Albion under pressure and a series of corners ended with Jordan Bradshaw making a good stop at close range. Soon afterwards though Glossop equalised from another corner when Ross Hardaker put the ball into his own net.
Albion didn’t give up and Nicky Matthews was ruled offside after he fired the ball home.
It was left to Bordman to score the winner directly from a corner kick on the hour.
A rash of mysterious bookings threatened to spoil the game, particularly when Nathan Woodward was dismissed within minutes of coming on from the bench.
But the ten men of Ossett Albion held out to gain a vital win – a good one considering Glossop are chasing promotion.
