Evo Stik Division One North
Burscough 0-1 Ossett Town
Jake Ellam’s first half cracker sent Ossett Town to the top of the charts as joint leaders with Lancaster City.
Heading into Christmas, Ossett could now pull off the unthinkable of sitting in top spot. It would complete an unbelievable 2016 which began with Ossett in relegation danger until the appointment of Grant Black.
The latest victory also prompted Burscough to sack their manager Dave Powell.
The home side started brightly as Ossett’s top goalkeeper Leigh Overton was called upon to make a series of top saves.
Midway through the first half, Ellam curled a magnificent effort into the top right-hand corner from the left.
It was a goal that deserved to win any game. Burscough’s life began harder a minute later as Declan Hill saw red for a rash tackle.
Ossett had chances to extend their lead, but the one goal was enough.
