Paul Quinn is unconcerned by Brighouse Town’s bizarre record of seven draws and two defeats out of their last nine league games as his side remain in a promotion-chasing position.
Despite not winning in the league since beating Farsley Celtic on October 16th, Brighouse are only five points off leaders Lancaster City.
Going into the trip to Droylsden tomorrow, Brighouse are in a positive mood as they did break the run of draws with victory over Goole AFC in the West Riding County Cup on Monday.
“Psychologically we needed that win (over Goole) and we treated it as an important game,” Quinn told Non League Yorkshire.
“It is now five games unbeaten. We have also lost the least amount of games in the league conceded and hopefully we can get some momentum going into the Christmas period.
“The number of draws we have had is fairly ridiculous, but there hasn’t been a bad performance in them.
“In the Hyde game we were down to ten men after 20 minutes and we had to really dig in and get the point. It was like a victory.
“At Trafford last Saturday we were outstanding. We played like the home side and although Trafford finished strong, I felt on reflection that we deserved three points.
“It is just one of those things. We have tried different things, but we haven’t been able to get over the finish line. I’ve never experienced so many draws in such a quick space of time.
“But we’re not getting beaten and we’re in a great position. If someone said that we would be in this position at this stage, we would have taken it.”
Quinn played a major role in his side’s return to winning ways as he came on as late substitute in the Goole win – and the Brighouse boss joked that some of his players may be worried about their places in the team.
“I thought both substitutions were absolutely superb,” he said.
“It was more circumstances (why I came on). Sam Hewitt was injured, Devonte Morton was cup-tied and Alex Low picked up a bad knock at Trafford.
“Luke Parkin wasn’t risked because of a tight groin.
“I didn’t have much choice to come on. I think there were a few squeaky bums in the changing room after they saw my 15 minutes!”
