Non League legend Mark ‘Willy’ Wilson has taken charge of struggling Retford United.
Wilson, whose long career has taken in clubs such as Emley, Bradford (Park Avenue), Worksop Town, Buxton, Ossett Albion, among many others, replaces Darren Darren Giovannetti.
Darren Giovannetti resigned following the 13-0 defeat to AFC Mansfield on Saturday.
Wilson leaves Worsbrough to take up the post. He will be registered as a player, ensuring that could make the 13 appearances which would take him to 1000 Non League games.
“Along my career I have made lots of contacts with players and managers who I will be learning to get Retford out of the trouble they are in,” Wilson said.
“I am familiar with Retford as I played 28 consecutive games last season for them before joining my local team Worsbrough, who I will be leaving to pursue my management career.
“I’d like to thank Worsbrough. I gave everything to them as I have with every club.
“Retford will be no exception. It is going to be hard, but I’ve never shied away from a battle.”
Wilson has previous managerial experience from being Chris Hilton’s assistant during the 2014/15 season at Stocksbridge Park Steels.
