Captain Marvel Alex Peterson ensured that Ossett Town will sit proudly as joint leaders on Christmas Day.

Ossett are second behind Lancaster City, but only on goal-difference and the incredible achievement underlines just how much of an amazing job Grant Black has done since taking over at Ingfield in February.

Ossett were in serious relegation danger back then. Now they are league heavyweights, with players who will run through brick walls for each other.

Perennial hero Danny Frost and player/assistant manager Steve Ridley went close in the first half.

But this week’s heroics were left to the captain Peterson who struck after Ossett caught Mossley out on the counter attack in the second half. Goalkeeper Leigh Overton started the move by punching away a Mossley free kick. Darol Lucas took control of the ball and he sent Peterson away. The striker did the rest on his own.

The Team

Ossett Town: Overton, Lucas, Henry, Wright, Gay, Hawksworth, Ellam, Ridley, Peterson (captain), Frost, Curtis. Subs: Yates, Farnhill, Freeman, Riley, Terrell.
