Ossett Town manager Grant Black has done an extraordinary job

Chairman James Rogers has said he didn’t feel it was a “gamble” to appoint Grant Black as Ossett Town’s manager back in February.

Black, in his first management position, has done extraordinarily well to turn Ossett from relegation candidates to the joint leaders at Christmas.

Speaking on the Non League Show on BBC Radio Leeds on Wednesday, Mr Rogers said: “Whenever you appoint a manager, there’s always a risk whether they are 20 years experienced or whether they are brand new to management.

“With Grant, we had met him previously and when we interviewed him we saw his passion and his ambition of what he wanted to achieve as a manager.

“He had achieved a lot at playing level. When we talked about how he was going to play, take it forward, the sort of players he was going to attract, it was a straight-forward decision.

“It didn’t feel a risk or gamble and it has turned out really well.”

Black also appeared on the same show and he heaped praise on his players.

“Timescales-wise it has probably exceeded the plans we had in place,” Black said.

“With the squad we have got and with the feel around the place, it has not exceeded my expectations.

“We have some good quality footballers, all hungry and wanting to kick up on up the pyramid.

“They are not being paid a lot of money so you know the lads you are getting in are there because they want to play football, not for anything else.”
