Maltby Main 1-5 Garforth Town
Miners hotshot Mark Simpson incredibly scored the first goal of his memorable hat-trick just 14 seconds in Garforth Town’s victory.
The in-form forward laid the pathway for another brilliant away day under Rob Hunter. The task was also made slightly easier when Maltby’s Shawn Mitchell was sent off in the first half.
A mis-placed pass gave Maltby a mountain to climb from the very start. Lee Turner won the ball and he found Simpson who went round Main goalkeeper Danny Rusling to score a sensational opener.
Two more quick-fire Garforth goals followed. Simpson added his second with a well-hit strike before Luke McCrum marked his 50th appearance for the club with a goal.
Mitchell then saw red for a lunge on Jack McMurrough.
Maltby enjoyed a good period of pressure in the second half and after a good deal of probing, Jordan Snodin found the top corner.
A well-disputed penalty extinguished Maltby’s hopes of a comeback. Snodin’s foul on McMurrough allowed Simpson to complete his treble from 12 yards.
Simpson returned the favour to McMurrough late-on with the assist for the midfielder’s goal.
On a different note, Simpson has gone past Garforth legend and Gibraltar International Adam Priestley on the club’s all time top goal-scorers list.
He is now on 43 goals, but still has a long way to go to catch the likes of club icons Simeon Bambrook and Greg Kelly.
