Calum Ward ended his goal drought for Selby Town

Goals from Liam Flanagan, Calum Ward and Jason Crisp eased ten man Selby Town back onto the winning track.

The home side took only six minutes to open the scoring. James Arnold got the assist as he supplied top scorer Liam Flanagan who extended his tally to 12 for the season with a close range finish.

The resurgent visitors played a good style of football and tested Peter Lawrie and the Town defence. Tom Hogg was forced to clear their best chance off the line.

Town almost doubled the lead on 35 minutes as Crisp rattled a 25 yard volley off the crossbar – had it gone in it would have being a contender for goal of the season.

Crisp provided a constant threat throughout the half and partnered well with the returning Arnold down the left, Scott Jones had a brace of solid chances before the interval and should have extended the home sides lead.

Town started the second period brightly-. Flanagan did all the hard work, rounded the defence and the keeper before stroking the ball wide of the target – a missed opportunity.

Just after the hour mark, Ward finally ended his goal drought as Town finally converted the pressure to double the lead.

A soft second yellow card then meant red for Scott Jones as Town were forced to see out the game with ten men, the Robins substitutions however lifted the tempo as Ash Hope and the impressive Jamie Tonkinson looked to apply further pressure on the South Yorkshire visitors.

The game was finally put to bed with under 20 minutes to play as Crisp finished a good move, involving Tonkinson and Ward, with a deserved goal and a well placed strike into the bottom left hand corner.

Although three goals down, Rossington never gave up and Cameron Johnson eventually beat Lawrie and a very committed Robins defence in the fourth minute of added time for a late consolation goal.
