Here is the 20th in our weekly series profiling players across the region. Each week a different player will reveal their best (and worst) moments. This week it is the turn of Pontefract Collieries striker Chris Wood.
Name: Chris Wood
Current Club: Pontefract Collieries
Position: Striker
Age: 31
Previous Clubs: Buxton, Belper Town, Ossett Town, Frickley Athletic, Hallam, Parkgate, Glapwell.
Day Job: Teach PE in Primary Schools
Best mate in football: Lee Stratford
Description of Career Highlight: Scoring 18 goals in first nine games after signing for Parkgate in 2011.
Lowest Moment in Football: Not playing in Evo Stick Division One South play-off final for Gladwell against Chasetown in 2010.
Description of Most Memorable Match: Away to Kendal Town for Frickley in 2013. Scored two in a 2-0 win in a big six pointer. Bus journeys that season were something special with that set of lads!
First semi-professional manager: John Reed at Buxton
Description of First Red Card (at semi-professional level): One and only ever red card in my career was against Bridlington for Parkgate. Defender was shielding ball out for a goal kick and just lashed out in frustration and kicked out
Description of First Goal (at semi-professional level): For Buxton against Carlton Town in the FA Trophy. ‘Chopped defender and scuffed it in’!
Description of favourite goal (at semi-professional level): For Buxton against North Ferriby in 2008 – first goal in Evo Stik Premier Division and was a really important goal in the context of the season
What do you want to achieve in football in the future: Promotion with Pontefract this season.
Favourite Non League Ground I’ve played at (barring your own club): Gigg Lane when FC United played there – fans were non stop for 90 mins
