Burnett’s goal defeats Lane’s title rivals

Shaw Lane AFC striker Gary Burnett has enjoyed a good start at his new club

Evo Stik Division One South

Spalding United 0-1 Shaw Lane AFC

Gary Burnett’s first half strike was all leaders Shaw Lane needed to defeat title-rivals Spalding United and open up a six point gap.

The Ducks are now unbeaten in 18 matches in all competitions.

Shaw Lane’s goal was very well-worked. Gavin Allott won the header from the long ball before Kieran Lugsden’s brilliant flick-on opened up the Spalding defence. Burnett latched onto the flick-on and coolly fired home past the Spalding goalkeeper.

Spalding could count themselves unlucky as both Lee Beeson and Matt Varley hit the crossbar.

Shaw Lane had to ride out a lot of Spalding pressure in the second half and goalkeeper Mathius Zanwieski had to make one tremendous save.

But Burnett’s goal proved to be enough.
