Miners continue unbeaten start to 2017

Toolstation NCEL Premier Division

Garforth Town 3-0 Hemsworth Miners Welfare

Second half goals from Mark Simpson and Jack McMurrough (2) ensured Garforth Town won for the second consecutive week.

Red hot Simpson also had a weak penalty saved by Hemsworth goalkeeper Chris Snaith. The impressive win against one of the most exciting teams in the NCEL takes the Miners up to 13th.

Garforth had the better chances in the first half, but Lee Turner and Luke McCrum were unable to take the best ones.

But the second half was a different story. Garforth raced in front as Simpson flicked Simon Poole’s free kick past a wrong-footed Snaith to score his 20th goal of the season.

Snaith’s foul on Turner then earned Garforth a penalty. Snaith redeemed himself by Simpson’s attempt to safety.

Fortunately for Garforth the miss did not matter. Mitch Hamilton, back from suspension, crossed for McMurrough to effectively seal the victory.

The midfielder added his second goal in the final minute, adding the icing on the cake. The win means Garforth remain unbeaten in 2017.
