‘Sedge end Armthorpe’s unbeaten run

Toolstation NCEL Premier Division

Armthorpe Welfare 2-4 Liversedge

Joe Walton scored twice for Liversedge

Armthorpe’s three match unbeaten run came to an end after Liversedge netted three times in the second half.

Liversedge got off to a dream start when Rhys Davies put them ahead in only the fourth minute. Darren Mansaram had a good chance to equalise seven minutes later but he miss kicked in front of goal.

However, on 13 minutes Welfare got their reward when a Morley free kick set up red hot Liam Radford perfectly to level the scores.

Radford sent Danny Bulman clear on 23 minutes but he slid the ball wide as ‘keeper Sam Andrews came out and five minutes later Mansaram’s tame shot was easily collected by Andrews.

Armthorpe went ahead on 32 minutes when Radford scored from the penalty spot, stepping up to take the kick after he had been fouled inside the box. The lead lasted barely a minute as Liversedge struck straight back to level through Joe Walton.

Davies ran through the Welfare defence before being denied by Adam Stevens on 41 minutes. iImediately at the other end Kearsley saw his shot blocked by the legs of Andrews with Radford blasting the rebound over the bar.

Welfare started the second half well, but Liversedge retook the lead with their first chance of the half with Vaughan Redford beating Stevens after the Welfare defence had been carved open again.

Radford fired over from 18 yards on 55 minutes but Radford went agonisingly close to his hat-trick on 63 minutes when Mansaram sent him clear into the box but after stabbing his shot past the advancing Andrews saw the ball come back off the right hand post to safety.

Ten minutes later Liversedge scored their four goal when a Welfare attack broke down allowing Liversedge to break quickly for Walton to score his second of the game.

Welfare kept pushing forwards but Liversedge were looking dangerous on every break and they scored again in the last minute. Another quick break looked to have come to nothing as Jack Waldron cleared a close range shot but incredibly Waldron’s clearance struck the back of Stevens and ricocheted into the goal to sum up a bad afternoon for the Welfare.
