Ryan White is being honoured with a special day by Athersley Rec to mark his 1000+ appearances for the club.

‘Ryan White Day’ will take place when Athersley host Staveley Miners Welfare on Saturday 4th February.

The Rec are hoping that White’s friends across local football will be able to attend the game to be involved in the celebrations – which includes a presentation.

Rec skipper White joined the club as a 12-year-old and has turned out for their junior, senior and Sunday sides. He has been captain during the Rec’s greatest period which has seen them rise from the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior League to the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division, along with surprising many by winning the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup final in 2014 at Hillsborough.

Although he has had spells with Ossett Albion, Gateshead and Ossett Town, White’s association with Athersley is still 25 years long as he carried on playing for the Sunday side.
