Promotion-chasing Hall Road Rangers ensured a profitable January ended on a real high with a five-star win over local rivals Westella.

Despite the poor weather conditions of late, the Rangers ground staff made sure the pitch was playable and despite being heavy underfoot both sides endured the cold and rain to put on a great footballing display.

It was Dave Ricardo’s boys who eventually came out on top after a relatively even first half was capped by a Chris Spinks goal just before the 40 minute mark.  The momentum carried Rangers through half time and into the second period when they powered home four more goals.

Rangers skipper Ash Dexter pounced for Ranger’s second on 50 minutes and killed any Westella hopes of a fight back.  Jamie Reeson’s deft little header on 62 minutes fooled Westella’s keeper and put the home side 3-0 up.  Sam Belcher added a fourth as he rose unmarked in the box to powerfully head home a corner.

Insult to injury came in the 80th minute when Josh Batty prodded home the Rangers fifth to secure the win and move the home side up to 4th in the table.

What They Said

Hall Road Rangers manager Dave Ricardo

“I couldn’t ask for anymore today.

“In terms of getting the whole squad game time, getting a clean sheet and obviously the result.

“I believe the lads are now ready to take the next 13 games as they come and they are going to come thick and fast with each game becoming more and more important.

“Not one individual is going to win it it’s got to be a club effort, fans, committee, management, coaches and players alike, we’re all in it together.”
