Rob Hunter is backing his star striker Mark Simpson to become the first Garforth Town player in years to score more than 30 goals in a season.
Simpson was crowned as the Crawford HR January Player of the Month earlier today after narrowly beating Shaw Lane midfielder Spencer Harris to win the trophy and bottle of red wine.
The forward now has 23 goals this season following a glorious month which saw him score seven times in five matches.
Simpson is also well on his way to becoming Garforth’s all-time top goal-scorer as he is slowly catching up with the tally belonging to legends Simeon Bambrook and Greg Kelly.
Speaking to Non League Yorkshire at lunchtime today, Hunter said: “After the Pickering game, he’s now scored nine times in seven games and it is a fantastic run of form from him.
“He’s not the finished article either. He should be getting 35 goals in this league every season. He’s still got an awful lot to learn on things like work rate and being stronger at times.
“But you can’t knock him because he’s going to get at least 30 goals for us this season. When was the last time someone got 30 goals for Garforth? Has it ever happened?
“It will be a phenomenal achievement.”
