Here is the 25th in our weekly series profiling players across the region. Each week a different player will reveal their best (and worst) moments. This week it is the turn of lethal Bridlington Town striker Brett Agnew.
Name: Brett Agnew
Age: 27
Current Club: Bridlington Town
Previous clubs: West Calder United, Rutherglen Glencairn,Hull United
Day Job: Van Driver
Best mate in football: Robert McMahon
Description of career highlight: 1st leg of the Scottish Junior Cup semi final against Auchinleck Talbot. there was about 2500 there and was the 1st time Rutherglen Glencairn had reached that stage in about 26 years. We drew 1-1.
Lowest moment in football: The rejection at not making the cut at a pro team is a low point in any player’s career. I had a couple in Scotland.
Description of most memorable match: Playing in the East Riding Senior Cup final for Hull United at the KC Stadium against my current team Bridlington was memorable as my son was born ten days before and I scored in front of him and all my family and friends. We lost 4-2 but it was a really good game to be apart of.
First semi-professional manager: Richard Hastings (West Calder United) real Gentleman and a hard-case as-well.
Description of first red card: I’ve had a few to be honest as I like to live on the edge, especially in my early days.
Description of first goal and semi professional level: It was probably a header, but I have scored a few screamers in my career.
Description of favourite goal: I scored a goal for Rutherglen Glencairn which is on YouTube against a team called Benburb. Where the keeper kicks it out and about 10 yards from halfway line I volley it right back past him into the net. It’s my favourite as I had been dropped for five games before this and got the last 15 mins of this game and it showed my manager what he was missing. (Editor’s note: It is a corker so watch the video!)
What do you want to achieve in football in the future: I would love for a team from higher up to take a chance on me. Conference north or Conference football league would be a dream.
How much are you enjoying it at Brid: I love it at Brid at the moment it’s a very good club and we’ll run in every aspect I feel comfortable there and that shows in my play.
Favourite Non League Ground to play at (barring your own club): I liked Harrogate Towns’ ground (when we played there in the FA Cup), it was a really nice set up.
