Nostell Miners Welfare 1-0 Selby Town
Luke Robinson’s late winner sent out the message that basement side Nostell Miners Welfare are not giving up without a fight.
The stunning victory, their first in 17 matches, provides a chink of light in their battle to pull off the great escape.
It is a massive reward for the club’s hard-working volunteers who have been through the mill during a disastrous campaign.
Credit also has to go to the club’s third manager of the season Terry Bates and his management team who have worked tremendously hard to put a competitive side together in the last six weeks.
Understandably Nostell had to ride their luck. They survived a few Selby attacks before Robinson made himself the hero.
Selby, who may look back on the defeat as one of their most embarrassing in recent memory, mounted a desperate bid to score an equaliser.
With Selby fielding a front four of striker Liam Flanagan and defenders Jaymie Hainsworth, Leon Cusworth and Dane Mortimer in the final throes, Nostell really had to hold their nerve.
Ultimately luck was on their side at last for them.
