Evo Stik Division One North
Paul Quinn believes his dream strike-force are capable of firing Brighouse Town into the play-offs.
Experienced Evo Stik duo Ben Wharton and Mike Fish have developed an excellent partnership having scored between them in the last few matches and Quinn has high hopes for the pair.
“Ben and Mike Fish have struck up a very good understanding in the last three games,” Quinn told Non League Yorkshire.
“They are very good as a pair and they’re a handful. I always thought they would be an excellent partnership.
“We’ve been pursuing Ben Wharton for a long time. I think we first went in for him in the summer and couldn’t quite get him over the line.
“We know his qualities, his experiences and that he was part of the Warrington side that did so well in the FA Cup. He has experience of playing in big games.
“Mike is obviously a proven goal-scorer at this level. He scored 20 goals this season before he came to us.
“It has taken them a bit of time to strike up an understanding, but they have got it now.
“Their goal record in the last few years put together is fantastic and hopefully they can push us on the final eight games.”
Brighouse are four points adrift of fifth-place Colne in the race for the play-offs and Quinn said: “I would say we are still very much outsiders and that we have a lot of work to do.
“We have to come off the rails and put something special together. We saw the other night that Glossop lost, Farsley lost, Ramsbottom drop points so we have to keep believing that we can get in there.”
On the same night as those surprise results, Brighouse won 4-0 at Ossett Albion with a really impressive display.
“It was really good win,” he said.
“I thought we were on top for most of the first half, we just needed that breakthrough and it was timely coming just before half-time.
“I thought Ossett came at us at the start of the second half and put us under a lot of pressure. We weathered it which I was really pleased about and we then managed to get ourselves further in front.
“We completely deserved it. We didn’t have a bundle of chances, but the conversion rate was very high so it was a very good away performance.”
Brighouse host Kendal Town tomorrow.
