Eccleshill United manager Sean Regan
Sean Regan believes he has built the side that will take Eccleshill United forward into next season.
After an inconsistent first half of the season, Regan and assistant Billy Swiatek led a mass rebuilding project by signing a host of new players and releasing a few.
The decision to make changes has paid dividends as Eccleshill have won five, drawn two and lost three since the turn of the year.
“I think I’m disappointed in the fact if we had the team we have now at the start of the season it would have been an improvement on where we now,” Regan told Non League Yorkshire when asked to sum up Eccleshill’s season.
“However, we have put half a squad together in three months and they have come in and bought into what we want so they have made a massive difference.
“The performances and results tell you how much of an improvement we have made in the last two or three months.
“The squad I have now is the one I want in the summer because I think it is a great and strong squad.
“If we keep hold of them in the summer, I won’t be looking many if any players because the people we have got absolutely want to play for Eccleshill United and that makes a difference.
“These players have convinced me that they want to play for Eccleshill and it is there in black and white with the results since Christmas time.
“The players are all happy and enjoying their football at Eccleshill United.”
Although he reckons he has a strong squad, Regan is keeping his feet on the ground over actual aspirations for next season.
“Everybody would love to win league titles and win this and that, but I’m just focussing on seeing the side improve,” he said.
“I think we are going in the right direction. You could say we could finish top two or get in the play-offs, but this league is one of the most unpredictable leagues in the world.
“You never know what you’re going to get. So for me, if we can take our form into next season then I think we can do quite well.”
