Tom Brennan’s first half double ensured second-placed AFC Emley took full advantage of promotion rivals Hall Road Rangers slipping up at Pontefract Collieries.

Brennan scored two identical goals either side of the halfway mark. Brennan headed home Liam Schofield’s corner for the opener before doing the same five minutes later.

Prior to the goals, Emley had enjoyed a few chances. Ash Flynn had been denied by Knaresborough goalkeeper Ben Ledger and Callum Charlton had rattled the crossbar.

Emley goalkeeper Graham McLachlan was called upon in the second half to deny Colin Heath, Tom Hesketh and Brad Walker.

Emley now have four games remaining. If they win all four, they still need Hall Road to drop points in at least one of their final seven matches to clinch the long-awaited promotion.
