Lee Morris and assistant James Kay were both sacked by Frickley on Monday morning
Lee Morris claims he was shocked to receive his marching orders from Frickley Athletic on Monday morning.
Morris was sacked, along with assistant boss James Kay, after seven months in charge and nearly 48 hours after the defeat to Halesowen on Saturday.
Karl Rose, who Morris replaced in September, was immediately re-installed as manager ahead of the crucial clash with Ilkeston on Saturday.
Morris believes he should have been given more time and is upset with the decision.
“We inherited a team which had collected zero points from six games and needed rebuilding from top to bottom,” Morris told Non League Yorkshire.
“The club was 15 points adrift when we took over and considering we have given the club a fighting chance of staying up, I’m shocked and hurt by the decision.
“Although I feel we could have picked up a few more points here and there, we have done very well to get the club into the position they are in. We also got to the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup semi-finals.
“I was very confident with the squad we had built that we would secure Evo Stik Premier Division football for the club for next season.
“Saturday’s display did not meet the standards we set for the team, but I was shocked to get the phone call this morning with the news. We should have been given the chance to finish the job.
“There’s more I could go into about this, but I don’t feel it is appropriate.”
Despite the major disappointment, Morris does still want to pursue a career in management.
“What has happened doesn’t put me off management,” he added.
“I want to get back into it, but I’ll take my time because it has to be the right club.
“I pulled Goole out of a terrible position (last season), and in my opinion, done a very good job with Frickley until it was cruelly taken away from me. I feel I have a lot to offer.”
