Yorkshire Amateur 2-1 Pontefract Collieries

T’Nique Fishley scored twice for Yorkshire Amateur against Pontefract

T’nique Fishley provided the latest twist in the enthralling promotion race as his second half double downed Pontefract Collieries at Bracken Edge.

Yorkshire Amateur turned in one of their best performances to defeat the Colls, with both goals arriving from a quick counter-attacking moves.

Pontefract were awarded two penalties in quick succession in the second half. Glynn Cotton scored the first, but his second one was saved by Ammers goalkeeper Suwara Bojang.

The result leaves Hall Road Rangers able to win the title if they win their two remaining matches. The race between Pontefract and AFC Emley remains hard to call.

There was little to speak about in the first half. Ammers’ winger Carl Heard’s dipping long range effort was the only real attempt at goal.

But the second half, which lasted 61 minutes because of two long delays because of injuries, was full of drama.

The pistol was fired the moment the Colls lost the ball in a high area and Fishley outdid Spencer Clarke for pace before slotting past Ben Saynor.

The Colls then laid siege to the Ammers’ goal without really testing Bojang. Luck seemed to be on their side though as a foul on substitute Chris Wood saw a penalty awarded. Cotton tucked away the penalty with ease.

The drama did not stop there as Wood was adjudged to have fouled by Ammers captain Freddie Swales two minutes later, leading to a second penalty. However, the Colls players ended up having their heads in their hands as Bojang tipped Cotton’s effort onto the crossbar before the rebound was blazed over.

It was a costly miss as Fishley would go onto take advantage of a collision between Saynor and defender Paul Haigh to score the winner with five minutes of normal time to play.

Sixteen minutes of added time followed. Pontefract, on this occasion could not break down a very hard working Ammers side.
