Radford completes Ducks fight-back

Evo Stik Division One North

Newcastle Town 2-3 Shaw Lane AFC

Oscar Radford scored the winner for Shaw Lane

Oscar Radford dramatically headed home a late winner for title-chasing Shaw Lane AFC, who were 2-0 down at one point.

The victory sets it up nicely for the potentially season-defining home clash with rivals Witton Albion on Tuesday night.

Witton fans must have been rubbing their hands with glee when Newcastle led by two goals through Lee Cropper and Jordan Cole who fired home a rebound after Ducks goalkeeper Jon Stewart saved Niall Green’s penalty.

The comeback was started by Spencer Harris’ header. The kitchen sink began to be thrown at Newcastle who then survived from a Ryan Qualter effort.

Key man Alex Byrne eventually headed the leveller before it was left to Radford to be the hero.

The Team

Shaw Lane AFC: Stewart, Austin, Radford, Lenighan, Qualter (captain), Byrne, Harris, Allott, Abadaki, Wafula, Kelvin Lugsden. Subs: Istead, Kieron Lugsden, Algar, Gregory, Zaniewski.
