Wing wizard Tom Gibbons stole the show with a four-goal haul as a Pro Celeb team came out 8-6 winners against the Yorkshire Ambulance and Air Ambulance staff at Garforth Town.
Local lady Helen Smith organised the match as she is running the London Marathon to raise money for YAA and the Make A Wish Foundation.
A large crowd turned out in bad weather conditions, helping to ensure that a lot of money has been raised.
Helen was the person for the responsible for the recruiting the celebs and she jointly managed the team with James Grayson and assistants Samuel Bannister and Charlie Fletcher.
The Celeb team were in control for large periods. Led by former Premier League strikers Dean Windass and Andy Campbell plus constant menace Gibbons, they were always a threat going forward.
Hull City legend Windass scored two magnificent long range strikes early doors, alongside a Archers actor Gibbons double and Campbell’s solitary goal.
The Air Ambulance side did get back into it in the second half and it was 5-4 at one point before Gibbons hit the third goal.
Captain and Coronation Street actor Liam Bairstow was then sent tumbling in the penalty area. He tucked the spot kick with ease.
Gibbons made certain the trophy was the Celebs late-on. The score-line was made closer in the final minute by a bizarre 60 seconds of refereeing from Chris Adey, who awarded three penalties – two were scored while one was saved by Educating Yorkshire headteacher Jonny Mitchell.
Despite the Adey’s efforts, the Celebs won and Bairstow was able to collect the trophy from special guest Lizzie Jones, widow of Rugby League player Danny Jones.
