Champions Shaw Lane are waddling up

Kidsgrove Athletic 0-2 Shaw Lane AFC

Spencer Harris scored Shaw Lane’s first goal

Champions Shaw Lane AFC are waddling into the Premier Division after a dramatic penultimate day of action in the Division One South.

The Ducks won at Kidsgrove to effectively win the crown, but their ascent was dramatically confirmed when it was revealed that rivals Witton Albion are to be deducted three points.

It means have Shaw Lane have won the title for tragic defender Dan Wilkinson who passed away in September after collapsing in a cup game at Brighouse Town.

Their triumph confirms Craig Elliott as one of the most successful Yorkshire-based Non League managers in recent memory.

Elliott has now won four promotions (two titles) as well as the old Wilkinson Sword Trophy during his managerial career at Shaw Lane, Ossett Town and Glasshoughton Welfare. He also won a lot of silverware whilst managing Kellingley in the West Yorkshire League a few years ago.

He could add to his list of achievements if he leads Shaw Lane to victory in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup final tomorrow night.

A Spencer Harris penalty set Shaw Lane on their way to the season defining penalty.

That second minute strike was the only goal of the game until the final few minutes when Gavin Allott finished a free-flowing Shaw Lane counter attack.
