Yorkshire Amateur believe their new 3g training pitch will transform their club.

With the help of sponsors Southerns Group, the Ammers are almost ready to unveil their new new seven-a-side 3g pitch inside their Bracken Edge home.

Club secretary Simon Charlesworth, who has spearheaded the development with Southerns, said: “I think it is the most exciting thing that has happened at the Ammers for a long time.

“The 3g pitch will bring new people to the club and put the club in a stable position for many years.

“We’re really excited. We no longer have to look elsewhere for training facilities. All our junior teams have a safe and new facility to train on.

“The revenue the 3g pitch will generate will also keep us on a strong financial footing. We’re also looking to hire it out to schools. We can’t wait until it is officially opened.

“We’re a club that takes a great deal of pride in our heritage.

“As a team, we predate Leeds United and actually sold Elland Road to them in 1920, for £250.

“Of course, that much money doesn’t get you very far in the world of football these days. We’re delighted to have the support of the Southerns Group and are confident that, with its backing, we can begin writing a very positive chapter in the club’s history.”

Southerns CEO Andy Kendall-Jones added: “We believe that we can really develop something very special here, and so I’m absolutely delighted to be involved.”
