New Selby boss Fox eyes promotion

Ambitious new Selby Town manager Christian Fox has set his sights on winning promotion next season.

Fox made the statement in his first in-depth interview, exclusively with Non League Yorkshire, since his appointment on Wednesday night.

Fox and his assistant Jonny Bruce beat off competition from 18 candidates to secure the post and the pair are now aiming to return Selby to the Premier Division next year, six years after relegation to Division One.

“As part of our interview and our application, we put in a long term vision and philosophy which stated where we want to take the club,” Fox told Non League Yorkshire.

“Our vision to take this club back to where it belongs in our opinion. First and foremost the target is to get it into the Premier Division.

“We have only looked at the next year or two. Getting back into the Premier Division has to be the number one aim.

“If we were successful in that we would re-assess the plans and come up with a few more goals.

“We’re ambitious and I think the club is ambitious and we’re looking for the best players who can get us out of this league.

“Promotion has got to be the aim next season. We’re not going to be happy with finishing tenth, we have got to be pushing for promotion.”

In the wide-ranging interview, Fox talks about the relationship between his All Star Football Academy and Selby – a partnership that chairman Ralph Pearse has previously said had helped to reinvigorate the club – to his recruitment ideas for the first team.

He also confirmed plans to invite Selby fans down to the club to further outline his vision and discuss the future.

On a different note, he revealed that he has yet to fully cement his management team in place.

“We’re looking to bring someone else in and we’re having discussions with him,” he said.

“There’s a couple of other people who will help, probably more on the social side.

“There’s also Jonny who is my assistant and he’s a really good coach. He’s enthusiastic and passionate and we work well as a team.”
