Bananarama have reformed recently. Now old pals Rob Hunter and Mark Smitheringale have been reunited as the latter has become the assistant manager of Garforth Town.

The pair have known each other for years and have worked together at Tadcaster Albion and Glasshoughton Welfare.

Smitheringale has left his role as the assistant to Paul Stansfield at Knaresborough Town to replace Andy Sunley who has moved to America. Mark Greaves remains first team coach.

The former Stamford player has lots of coaching experience and has also had roles at Harrogate Railway and Clitheroe. At Railway, he was assistant to Paul Marshall during the unforgettable 2002 run to the FA Cup second round proper.

On the playing front, as well as playing in an FA Vase final at Wembley, he has played for a World Cup winning England Veterans side.

Hunter told Non League Yorkshire: “I’m delighted to have been able to persuade Smudge to join the club.

“We go way back and we share the same beliefs about football. When Andy Sunley unfortunately left us, Smudge was the first person I thought of as to who would replace Sunners.

“I believe we have a very strong management team going forward into next season. There’s myself, Smudge and Mark Greaves, who has been tremendous in the past ten months and has put some fantastic training sessions on each week. I think we will make a great team.”
