Grant Black has made his first headline signing of the summer by capturing Athersley Rec rising star Kai Hancock.

Black has done well to sign the young forward, who hit 32 goals in his first season in semi-professional football and also had a trial with Barnsley.

Black told Ossett’s official website: “The boy is hungry to succeed, he’s got all the ability in the world and I feel he will improve with us and move onto bigger things.”

Ossett have also been boosted by the news that Non League Yorkshire manager of the year Black is staying on at Ingfield, along with contracted duo Ashley Jackson and captain Alex Peterson.

Black added: “We have unfinished business at Ossett Town, the club is a special place and full of great people behind the scenes.”

  1. Not sure about ability, he’s a lot of learning to do and if he doesn’t learn quickly will be found out. Expected a bigger move to be honest.

  2. Quite a surprise signing. Hope there is a clause giving Athersley Rec funds if he goes on to greater things
