Former Doncaster Rovers reserves captain Brett Lucas has signed for Selby Town as Christian Fox admits he does not want to recruit many more players.
Lucas has put pen-to-paper along with Andy Jackson. A third capture is also expected to be revealed later.
Selby have already made a host of signings, but Fox, appointed in May, does not intend to repeat what happened last season when the Robins had over 60 players registered.
Fox told Non League Yorkshire: “Because of midweek fixtures, you need to make sure you have people who can come at short notice signed on, but over the course of the season we only want to use a maximum of around 33 players.
“If it is less than that, that’s all the better because it will be a tight knit group.
“By the start of the season I want either 20 or just above that signed on. The key this year is keeping the number of players registered down and having quality all over the pitch.”
Speaking before Lucas, who played in Saturday’s defeat to Pickering Town, and Jackson’s signings were announced, Fox did say he was open to bringing in more experienced players.
Many of those signed on are classed in the young bracket.
“It is a little area of concern, but we’re still talking to players,” he added.
“But if you were to pick a team now for the start of the season there would be four or five experienced players in there.”
