Wayne Benn plans to make final decisions over his trialists at Hemsworth Miners Welfare after tonight.

Hemsworth host Ossett Albion in Fitzwilliam tonight. Benn, who has signed Lloyd Henderson, Danny Rusling and Chris Ovington so far, also confirmed that he is actively searching for further new recruits.

“There were five or six trialists in the side against Barnsley and we intend to make decisions probably after the Ossett Albion game,” Benn told Non League Yorkshire.

“What we don’t want to do is keep these lads hanging around all summer and leave them with no real options.

“We have said this to them all along. In terms of all them, their attitude towards training and how we do things has been absolutely first class.

“Even if we take up options with some of the trialists, we are still looking to make key signings in one or two areas we feel we need to.

“We’ll be active right until the start of the season, maybe even after it has started.

“You know yourself that there is a lot of people on trial at clubs and you can’t sign everybody so I think the last couple of weeks of pre-season will be interesting because there will be people looking for clubs.

“We’ll be in the market for one or two.”

Benn’s side lost 3-1 to Barnsley U23s on Tuesday night and he said: “It was a good workout.

“Barnsley have been excellent in the way they approached it. They had two different sides and they were a bit fitter and sharper than us, as you would expect from professional footballers.

“I thought our lads really acquitted themselves really well in the first half. We passed it well. We were sloppy in possession, but we were going to be as it was our first real friendly.

“The lads look in good condition. They had to work hard and that will benefit them.”
