Mike Carmody is closing to finalising his Armthorpe Welfare squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Carmody is still running the rule over a number of trialists after four pre-season friendlies.
The Welfare boss has made plenty of new signings, as well as keeping many of last season’s line-up and he admits that a final decision on the trialists could be made after Saturday’s trip to Hall Road Rangers.
“Although we have retained a lot of players, we are looking at a lot of players,” Carmody told Non League Yorkshire.
“Never say never with more signings. At the moment I think we’re almost there.
“We have had three hard games prior to tonight (the 3-1 win at Selby Town) against Winterton, Doncaster Rovers and Stocksbridge.
“We are looking now to try and trim the squad down so we can get it ready to go into the season.
“We’ve made no promises to the trialists. It is a case of them coming in and doing their best.
“I think we’ll play one more game and then look to make decisions.”
Gary Collier led the way for Armthorpe with two goals – one a screamer – in the 3-1 victory at Selby Town, a club that Carmody once held the position of first team coach at.
On the win, the Armthorpe manager added: “It was a good workout for the boys.
“We were very solid, but it is pre-season at the end of the day.
“I was appointed at Armthorpe last September and most of my players have been with me since then.
“Christian has just come in and a lot to look at so for us it was about getting minutes and seeing how we coped against someone at our level.
“It has given us a clue as to where we are at. I thought we moved the ball around well.
“Gary was on fire too. He promised me today that he’d score. He took his goals really well and I thought he was one of our better players tonight.
“He looked lively every-time we went forward.”
