Yorkshire Amateur rue missed chances

Much-fancied Yorkshire Amateur were made to rue a series of missed chances in their final pre-season fixture before the big Toolstation NCEL kick off next week.

Ammers dominated the second half, but were unable to score past new Albion Sports goalkeeper Jake Lofthouse.

Although the Leeds-based club were dominant at the end, it was Albion who hit the front-foot from the first whistle. Within a few minutes on the clock, Alex Cusack lashed home the opener after latching onto Omar Habeeb’s clever through ball.

Out of nowhere, the Ammers levelled with Ash Flynn scoring again with a deflected from the edge of the penalty area.

Albion got the winner close to half-time when the Ammers fell asleep and allowed their visitors to capitalise from a quickly-taken throw-in. Predatory striker Danny Facey did the rest.

The Ammers were excellent going forward in the second half. There was great movement and the chances flowed.

Tom Rose hit the post. Harrison Blakey was denied by Lofthouse, as was Flynn on two occasions.

It wasn’t to be for the Ammers, but Saturday’s season opener against Eccleshill United is far more important.
