Nostell Miners Welfare
Nostell Miners Welfare find themselves in the NCEL, despite finishing bottom last season after winning only four times. Because Westella & Willerby rejected a reprieve, Nostell were handed a second chance. Last season began disastrously with poor results and it did not get any better as four managers held the reins over the course of the campaign. Now there is hope for brighter times under the stable leadership of chairman Kevin Allsop, director of football Mark Booth, manager Des Hazel and player/coach Wayne Ball.
Who’s the Boss
Des Hazel
The former Rotherham United legend, who played International football for St. Kitts & Nevis, is in his first senior managerial post. Hazel, the father of Frickley striker Jacob Hazel, was previously the head of youth development at FC Halifax Town.

Player Movement
Nostell have literally had to rebuild their squad in a short space of time because of the late notice regarding the reprieve.
Basically it is more-or-less a new squad which is still being built as we speak so it may take time for the team to settle down.
Interview
Des Hazel admits that fixing Nostell Miners Welfare will not be completed overnight.
Hazel is tasked with lifting Nostell out of the doldrums, alongside director of football Mark Booth and player/coach Wayne Ball.
But he is not setting targets. His first aim is win matches – something Nostell managed only four times last season.
“First and foremost we need to try and get back to winning football matches,” Hazel told Non League Yorkshire.
“The club has lost its feeling for winning. If you’re winning it creates a good atmosphere and hopefully we can get as the season progresses.
“Hopefully the winning formulas will come.
“It is going to be hard work, a long slog. We need the effort and commitment from the players. I’m putting my all in.
“The proof is in the pudding and we’ll probably know after five or six games where we’re heading.”
The former Rotherham United defender is a highly-qualified coach – who previously held the role of head of youth development at FC Halifax Town.
Hazel admits his skills-set fit for perfectly for the facilities at the Crofton Community Centre.
“The training facilities are magnificent, absolutely top class for the level we are at,” he said.
“The training facilities were one of the main things that attracted me to Nostell.
“The 3g surface makes a huge difference as you can get on there and work on formations, decision-making.
“The facilities were a big factor in my decision to say ‘yes’ to the club.
“The first team pitch, well if you can’t play on that, I think you shouldn’t be playing football.”
