Dan Wilkinson will be remembered tomorrow night when Shaw Lane AFC return to Brighouse Town for the first time since the tragic events of last September.

Shaw Lane will face new-look Brighouse in a match which will see funds raised go towards the Dan Wilkinson Foundation.

Dan suffered a cardiac arrest during the second half of the Integro League Cup clash between the two sides and later tragically passed away.

Craig Elliott, who accompanied Dan in the ambulance that night, admits it will be a difficult occasion. It is expected that many players who were in both teams will be present to pay their respects.

“It is another occasion that will bring more closure,” Elliott told Non League Yorkshire.

“Going back to Brighouse will be difficult, there is no doubt about that.

“I haven’t actually been back to Brighouse since that night so thoughts from that night will come back to me for sure.

“It will be a surreal game. It won’t be like a pre-season game because it will be difficult for all the players and a lot of people.

“I’ve invited the squad who were involved that night and with the club at the time to the game. I think it is important that we do get as people down as possible to show our respects to Dan.”

Since the tragic night, Shaw Lane have named a stand after Dan.

His family have also set up the Foundation which provides screenings for footballers at grass roots level, assists clubs in purchasing defibrillators and provides training in CPR.

“It is also a great chance to raise more money,” Elliott added.

“Raising money for the Dan Wilkinson Foundation has been the big positive from it all.

“Hopefully we will raise a bit of cash.”
