Emirates FA Cup

History-maker Scott Whittington hit the winner for Penistone Church in their historic FA Cup victory

Scott Whittington was the history-maker as Penistone Church manager Ian Richards finally saw his dream of an Emirates FA Cup victory come true at last.

Whittington hit the winner in the epic 4-3 victory at Charnock Richard. Church were 2-0 down after 34 minutes and were needing a miracle until three goals in seven minutes from Jordan Barnett (2) and Jordan Coduri put them ahead.

Charnock would equalise again, but Whittington ensured Penistone’s progression into the Preliminary Round.

Parkgate are through after a 4-2 win over Barnton – Carl Woodhead, Kieran Hirst, Chris Howard and Charlie Stewart found the net.

Hemsworth Miners Welfare lost 2-0 at Runcorn Linnets. AFC Emley were beaten 3-0 by Burscough in the Sunday fixture.
