Emirates FA Cup
Armthorpe Welfare 1-1 Liversedge
Will Ramsay struck a spectacular 30 yard equaliser in the 65th minute to earn Armthorpe Welfare a deserved second chance against higher ranked Liversedge.
Roy Fogarty had given Liversedge a 1-0 half time lead and they could have scored more as Welfare looked off the pace. However, a much improved second half saw Welfare draw level and then go agonisingly close to winning the tie late on.
Liversedge started brightly and went close in the opening minutes but Foggarty shot wide form 18 yards. The impressive Foggarty was involved again on 14 minutes when he worked some space for himself before having a low shot well saved by Liam Copley.
Welfare’s first opportunity came on 22 minutes when Liam Radford burst clear down the right of the box and crossed for Gary Collier but goalkeeper James Waggett was alert to collect the ball at Collier’s feet.
Foggarty gave Liversedge the lead on 29 minutes when Welfare failed to deal with a cross from the Liversedge left which somehow found its way through to Foggarty to pick his spot from 8 yards.
Welfare had been conceding possession too easily throughout the first half and manager Mike Carmody made a change as he introduced Craig Aspinall for Josh Dodd on 54 minutes.
Eight minutes later James Walker intercepted a pass before firing in a shot from 35 yards that flew just wide. A left wing corner then caused havoc inside the Liversedge box before the ball was eventually claimed by Waggett when it seemed destined to be forced into the net.
Then, on 65 minutes, Ramsay latched onto a high ball some 30 yards out and hit a tremendous volley which gave Waggett not chance as it dipped over his head and just under the bar.
Welfare’s tails were up but it was Liversedge who twice went close to scoring again with Foggarty seeing two 18 yard shots deflected wide within five minutes.
However, these were isolated chances, and Welfare went close to a winner on 84 minutes when Liam Radford went round Waggett on the right of the box but found himself with too tight an angle. His cross was cut out but fell for Walker whose follow up effort was blocked.
In the 89th minute Craig Morley got his head to a deep free kick with the ball coming back off the inside of the far post and rolling across the face of goal before spinning out for a goal kick.
Finally, in the 1st minute of stoppage time, substitute James Handley found himself one on one with Waggett, but after beating the ‘keeper, the forward shot went just wide of the near post.
